Straight

The third par 5 on the front nine, Straight is a hole whose character can change dramatically depending on the wind. Whether playing downwind or directly into it has a huge influence on both strategy and scoring opportunities. The tee shot is played down a tight driving hole, where accuracy is every bit as important as distance. A solitary pot bunker and a ditch running the entire length of the right-hand side must be avoided, making a well-positioned drive essential. For those unable to reach the green in two, the lay-up requires careful thought. A pot bunker positioned around 100 yards short of the green creates a decision point, with the safest option being to finish either well short of it or beyond it to leave a comfortable approach. The green is guarded by bunkers on both the left and right sides, demanding accuracy on the final shot. However, once safely on the putting surface, players are met with one of the largest and flattest greens on the course, offering a welcome respite from some of the more undulating greens encountered earlier in the round.
